President Bush's emergency spending plan approved!

The emergency spending bill, discussed at length below, was approved in the Senate yesterday by a 98-1 vote. The story is here. $66 BILLION of the approved $94.5 billion will go to military operations overseas. The USAToday says, "Still, there is increasing concern in Congress about the cost of the war in Iraq and the fact that the spending is kept on a set of loosely policed books that are kept separate from the rest of government operations." The article goes on, "On an unrelated defense policy bill, senators Wednesday voted 98-0 for an amendment by John McCain, R-Ariz., to require future funding for the wars to be considered in the same way as other government spending measures." It seems that President Bush is doing as bad a job as I am at paying off debt! ha!

And PS-- yes, the $2.3 billion to combat avian flu was approved too. EEK!
